Agriculture

Farming is a crucial industry of any economy as it provides man with the vital goods: basic food products and raw materials used in the production of commodities.

With 15.7% of the country's capital assets concentrated in it, the farming industry accounts for more than 12% of Russia's gross social product and more than 15% of its national income. Farming uses input from eighty economy sectors and, in its turn, supplies its produce to sixty sectors. Central to the country's agricultural industry is farm production.

Three major domains have traditionally been identified in the agricultural industry. The first one includes sectors which produce farming machinery: tractor and agricultural engineering, mechanical engineering for livestock farming and feed production, manufacturing of land reclamation machinery, mineral fertilizers, agricultural industrial construction, compound feed and microbiology industry, auxiliary sectors, etc. The second includes (livestock and arable) farming and forest management. The third one encompasses sectors which process agricultural produce: food industry, light industry sectors related to the pre-processing of flax and wool, as well as industries which provide for the procurement, storage, transportation, and sale of agricultural produce.
